How to rise up your child to be that successful person who can take care of himself in this difficult world and live a happy life.
“To me education is leading out of what is already in the pupil’s soul.
To Miss Mackay it is a putting in of something that is not there, and that is not what I call education, I call it intrusion.”
Muriel spark: “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. Ch.2(Get The Book)
“Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.”
Gilbert k. Chesterton: the observer “sayings of the week July 6, 1924”.
“to make your children capable of honesty is the beginning of education.”
John Ruskin: “Time and Tide”. Letter VIII(Get The Book)
Now, the gist of education is the humanizing of this newcomer into human civilized society: the human baby.
The human baby comes into our midst with the raw natural instincts with a happy endowment from his predecessors; these natural and humanized patterns of behavior show in him or/her ever since his/her enfancy.
Successful Tested Method
Well, I am not a father yet, but I used to help in the education of the young of my sisters and brothers;
I play with them.
I devise play so as to reveal and distinguish their natural and humanized traits.
Then I begin to assess the strong and the weak parts of their future personalities.
Crossing The Ravine
Children have what might be termed “natural developmental egoism”.
Another facet of their nature is sibling, strong sibling attachment: to the hint that you will take their new born baby brother or sister they will show tearful anger.
In every child’s growing up odyssey is the rite of crossing the ravine of egoism to altruism, of closed individuality to empathy from a wild creature to a tamed civilized human being.
Managing the waves of joy
some families embark upon this rite by giving the child a sum of money to give to a begger sitting on the pavement or by giving food to the pets in the household; they experience a surging of waves of joy in their souls and at this point you must enhance these sentiments with appropriate children stories.
Rudiments Of Justice
In our modern societies there are many sources education:
popculture, songs, films, books.
When you, as a father or mother feel that the child has crossed the line of egoism to altruism then you can begin to instill the rudiments of justice and this can be done with some sayings and wise words like:
“what goes around comes around”
“do unto others what you like the others do unto you”
“what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander”
The other value to instill in the child is that of efficiency:
in our Islamic tradition we have a saying of our prophet Mohamed(P.B.U.H):
“I seek refuge into Allah from a knowledge that benefiteths not …….”
Give Them The Freedom Of Choice
The education of children is not complete until.
When they become of school age, we give them complete freedom to choose what they want to become in the future.
Some children are born to choose technical training and like the French say of this variety:
“il pense avec lesmains”
Some lean toward the arts: some like the theoretical intellectual pursuits.
And like what miss Spark wrote:
“To me education is leading out of what is already in the pupil’s soul.”
What About Money
In our modern consuming societies there is the question of how much pocket money we should give to our children.
We may consider the following wise words:
“Too much of anything can harm one.”
